What is tungsten carbide?
Apr 24, 2018

Tungsten carbide is a compound consisting of tungsten and carbon. It is a black hexagonal crystal with metallic luster. Its hardness is similar to that of diamond. It is a good conductor of electricity and heat. Tungsten carbide is insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, and is easily dissolved in nitric acid - In the mixed acid of hydrofluoric acid, pure tungsten carbide is fragile. If a small amount of titanium, cobalt, or other metals are incorporated, brittleness can be reduced. Tungsten carbide used as a steel cutting tool often includes titanium carbide, niobium carbide, or a mixture thereof. In order to improve the anti-knock ability, the chemical properties of tungsten carbide are stable. The tungsten carbide powder is applied to the hard alloy production materials.
